Can You Hear the Difference?
In this 'Hear the Difference' study session you will be presented with 5 questions. For each question a Thai word will be spoken and a list of 2 or more possible 'similar sounding' words will be displayed, showing both the Thai text and the English text. The challenge is to listen to the Thai word spoken and then select which word you think is correct from the list. You can click the blue play icon to hear the audio again as many times as you wish.
At the end of the study session your score will be displayed along with the words from each question. The correct answer and your selection will be shown for each question, and it's possible to listen to the audio for each word listed.
The nature of Thai is such that many words sound very similar, such as the same words but with a different tone, or long vowels vs. short vowels or even similar sounding vowels in some cases. The 'Hear the Difference' study session is designed to help you practice listening and distinguishing between many different groups of 'similar sounding' words.
'Similar sounding' words are listed in the 'View Flashcard' page, which is accessible after searching and clicking any of the words returned in the search results.
