The various Thai language study tools and downloadable content available on this site evolved as I was gradually going through the many months of learning Thai. The features are things that I wanted to aid in my study of the Thai language, most of which I couldn't find available elsewhere.

If you've just started learning Thai, or would like to get started but aren't sure where best to begin, then we recommend using the steps provided on the 'Recommended Steps for Beginners' page as a roadmap on your journey to learning Thai. Learning a new language, especially one that is very different from one's own native tongue, can seem overwhelming at times, so we recommend practising daily, little and often. Be patient with yourself but keep up the daily practice and gradually build the momentum.

At funtolearnthai.com we're focused on continually building out this site, adding more content, making improvements and adding additional language learning tools. We sincerely hope you find the tools and features available on this site helpful in your studies of the Thai language. And we'd love to hear any feedback and suggestions you have. We're keen to help make learning Thai just that little bit easier!

Below are the details of the various Thai language learning tools and features currently available on this site.

Flashcard Library and Flashcard Decks

student At the heart of the site is the large flashcard library, with other 5,000 flashcards, which we regularly update with more words. If there are any words you can't find, which you'd like to use in your flashcard decks, then please let us know via the 'Contact Us' page and we'll endeavour to add them during the next batch of updates. As well as the large library of flashcards there are also many pre-defined flashcard decks ready for your immediate use, such as '100 Common Nouns', 'Animals and Insects', 'Classifiers', 'Food and Drink' etc.

If you have already created an account and are currently logged in, then you can also create your own flashcard decks by searching and adding any of the words from the flashcard library. You can also copy existing flashcard decks and modify as best suits your requirements.

Regular use of flashcards is one of the best ways of learning vocabulary. We recommend an initial goal of 50 flashcards per day. You can see your study progress on the top panel of the home page, for example:

example home page stats

The 'Flashcards Reviewed' figure is the total number of flashcards you've seen, this includes the multiple times you may have seen a flashcard that you didn't know. The 'Mastered' figure is the total number of flashcards that you have mastered (achieved 100% progress on that flashcard), which means you correctly know the English to Thai, Thai to English and the audio to English translations on at least 2 or more occassions. The 'Overall Progress' figure is your overall progress to mastering every single flashcard in the entire library on the site, which is quite a stretch goal but worth aiming for as I'm sure you could easily recognise every word in the library in English. Wouldn't it be great if that was also true in Thai.

Your progress is also shown beneath each flashcard deck indicating your percentage progress towards mastering every flashcard in that deck, for example:

You can also see your daily, weekly and monthly study progress on the 'My Stats' page. As well as steadily building up your vocabulary, it's also important to regularly practice and master the 5 tones of the Thai language.
